On today’s date (April 26) in the morning hours, troopers from the Indiana State Police Post at Sellersburg went to 354 West Cross Street in Austin on an anonymous tip of Marijuana growing near the residence. When troopers arrived they searched the premises and located three growing Marijuana plants in the backyard of the residence.

After talking to the residents of the home troopers arrested Harlen Combs, 29, of 354 West Cross Street in Austin. He was incarcerated in the Scott County Jail on the charges of Possession/Cultivating Marijuana with a Prior Marijuana Conviction, D Felony.

It’s probably raining again in Scott County. Most likely, it is.
Except for brief respites on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, April 23, 24 and 25, rain has been the steady companion of anyone trying to do anything outside.

The special executive Board of Trustees meeting of the Scott Memorial Hospital for Thursday, April 28, starting at 5:30 p.m. to discuss Strategy Planning has been canceled.

Benefit pancake breakfast April 30
The Hanover Masonic Lodge No. 652, behind Jendy’s Pizza in Hanover, will host a pancake breakfast on Saturday, April 30, from 6 to 10:30 a.m. This fundraiser will include pancakes, waffles, eggs, bacon, sausage, milk, juice, coffee. The public is invited to attend.

The Mariann Restaurant will be hosting After Hours of the Greater Scott County Chamber of Commerce on Monday, May 2, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. There will be food, drinks and prizes. They will also be celebrating  and becoming smoke free on this day.

Mother’s Day dinner at C’ville VFW
The Crothersville VFW Post 1083 will hold a Mother’s Day dinner on Sunday, May 8, starting at 12 noon. The menu will include fried chicken, ham, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, macaroni and cheese, rolls, salad and dessert. Cost is $6 and carry-out is available.

Blood drive at AHS on April 29
A visit by the Red Cross Bloodmobile is planned from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Austin High School.Students may sign up in Room 207. Others may call the high school at 794-8730 to arrange appointments. All who plan to give blood are encouraged to drink plenty of water and eat iron-rich foods, such as salad greens. Donors must be in good health and be at least 17 years of age unless a parent or legal guardian signs a release.

Right to Life Spring Banquet April 30
The Scott County Right to Life’s Spring Banquet will be held on Saturday, April 30, at 6 p.m. at the American Martyrs Catholic Church Parish Hall.
The speaker at the event will be Deanna Jackson, Director of C.R.A.D.L.E.. The public is invited to participate in this effort to support life in all stages.

A spring Jam and Youth Rally, sponsored by CWS Cluster will be held Saturday, April 30, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Lake Iola Interurban Shelter in Scottsburg. The featured band will be The Burg, a live band and praise team with youth minister. A love offering will be accepted to go to The Burgs Youth for Camp Registration fee.

Free family craft program April 28
The Jackson County Public Library will offer a free family craft program at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 28, at the Crothersville Library. Families will decorate bunny cookies. Gibson Twp. VFD fish fry and auction April 30
The Gibson Township-Little York Volunteer Fire Department will have their annual fish fry and auction on Saturday, April 30, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the firehouse in Little York. The auction will begin at 6 p.m. consisting of items donated by the community and the merchants in Washington and Scott County. The menu will include fish or hamburger, french fries, dessert and drink. Everyone is invited to attend. A raffle prize will also be given away.

Smorgasbord at SUMC April 29
The Scottsburg United Methodist Church, located at 615 S. Honeyrun Parkway, will hold a smorgasbord on Friday, April 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. Tickets in advance are $8 for adults, $4 for children ages 3-11, and $18 for family. Family consists of two adults and children under the age of 12. Tickets at the door will be $1 more on each ticket. The meal will include meats, vegetables, salads, breads, homemade desserts.

100th anniversary set for May 1 at HHS
Henryville High School is celebrating the 100th year of its first graduating class on Sunday, May 1, at the school from 2 to 5 p.m. This is an important event for the Henryville community. Visitors will be able to tour the school, view the alumni hallway, observe memorabilia from the past, visit with other graduates and enjoy refreshments during the celebration. All graduates and members of the community are invited to attend.

Austin Lions’ all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast April 30
Austin Lions Club members will be dishing up hundreds of pancakes for the public on Saturday, April 30, at the Austin Train Depot from 7 to 11 a.m. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children. The menu will include pancakes, sausage, biscuits and gravy and juice and coffee.
Tickets are now available from Lions Club members or can be purchased at the door the morning of the breakfast. Proceeds from the event will help the Lions with community youth programs and projects.

Revival at Free Holiness Pentecostal Church of God
A revival will be held Thursday through Saturday, April 28-30, starting at 6 p.m. each night at the Free Holiness Pentecostal Church of God. The church is located at 1163 Mann Avenue in Austin. The guest evangelist will be Pastor Robert Moore of Salem.

One Scott County student has been named recipient of a full-tuition, four-year scholarship as the Scott County Community Foundation 2011 Lilly Endowment Community Scholar.
Chadwick Jones of Scottsburg High School will receive full tuition to the Indiana college of his choice and an $800 yearly stipend for required books and equipment.

Multiple felony drug charges filed against Lexington-area resident PDF Print E-mail

An investigation of a recent domestic call resulted in the arrest of a Lexington area man on eight drug-related charges.
Daniel E. Richie, 31, Charlestown Road, was taken into custody by Chief Deputy Don Campbell on March 31 when Deputy Campbell went to a residence on East State Road 356 on a domestic situation or fight. As the officer pulled into the driveway of the residence, he said Richie sat down in the rear seat of a vehicle on the driver’s side. When he made contact with Richie, Chief Deputy Campbell related that he saw a handgun lying on the seat of the vehicle. Richie could not provide a valid firearm license for the weapon, the officer said, and was subsequently arrested.
